Historic Context Statement (HCS) Funding

On May 10, 2022, the City Council unanimously referred a budget referral request (document by the Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) to Mayor Jesse Arreguín to fund a city-wide historic context statement. At this time, the mayor has identified the request as Tier 3 which includes items deemed to be Non-Urgent Operational Needs.

HCS Benefits
  • Centralizes decades of piecemeal resources into a current policy document

  • Informs developers about historic resources in advanced and not after a proposed project is submitted, thereby streamlining housing production 

  • Eliminates the cost of HREs for individual property owners

  • Provides transparency on which properties should and should not be designated as city landmarks.

  • Conforms to standard practice and responsibility as a California Certified Local Governments (CLG)(webpage link)
